MONROE, CT — Monroe police detectives are investigating two commercial burglaries that occurred late Saturday night.
At 10:13 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to an alarm at the Monroe Smoke Shop, 181 Main St., and found the front door had been forced open and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the register, according to the report.
The next morning, the owner of Indian Raj Restaurant, 477 Main St., reported that a burglary had taken place sometime overnight.
Lt. Greg Smith said the front door had also been forced open and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register. He said police believe both burglaries may be related.
Detectives are reviewing video from surveillance cameras near the incidents, while conducting their investigations. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Monroe Police Department’s general number, 203-261-3622, and to ask for the detective bureau.
Thieves prowling neighborhoods again
Police responded to several reports of attempted thefts from motor vehicles Sunday. In some cases, unlocked cars were entered and nothing was taken. In others, thieves encountered locked doors and moved on.
A Blue Hills Road resident called police at 4:27 a.m. when he saw thieves attempting to enter his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. Police said the vehicle was locked and the suspects moved on.
At 6:17 a.m., a High Meadow Road resident reported that thieves entered his vehicle and told officers he has video.
Then at 9:31 a.m., a Lovers Lane resident told police two unlocked vehicles were entered overnight, though nothing was taken.
