MONROE, CT — Three cars were reported stolen this Tuesday as motor vehicle thefts continue to plague the region.
“We’ve had many cars entered and five stolen already this month,” Police Lt. Kevin McKellick said Thursday. “The common thread here is every vehicle was left unlocked, entered without force with the keys inside. We continue to remind the public to safeguard your valuables. Lock your doors. Remove valuables from your car, even when your vehicle is in your driveway.”
Monroe police officers arrested two juveniles, twice each, in connection to previously stolen vehicles last week and McKellick said warrants for two more arrests have been signed. But the thefts are still occurring.
All three of the recent thefts were reported on Tuesday and had taken place sometime overnight.
At 9:30 a.m., the theft of a 2014 Lincoln MKT was reported stolen, when it was parked in a driveway on Gay Bower Road.
At 10:45 a.m., a black Audi Q5 parked on Oakwood Drive was reported stolen. Inside were personal belongings and credit cards, police said.
A 2019 Porsche Macan reported stolen from a residence on Bardugone Lane at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday was later recovered in West Hartford. Monroe police detectives drove there Wednesday, processed the car for evidence and returned it to its owner.
Illustrating how widespread the problem is, McKellick said other stolen cars were also found in West Hartford that day, one from Newington and another from Carmel, N.Y.
Monroe officers also responded to reports of several unlocked vehicles that were entered on Tuesday.
A wallet and purse were reported stolen out of a car on School Street and a second vehicle was also entered there, though nothing appeared to have been taken.
Vehicles were also entered on Gay Bower and Greenlawn roads, though nothing was reported stolen, police said.
