MONROE, Conn. — The caller I.D. on a local man’s phone said “possible scam call,” but he answered it anyway Thursday, leading to the theft of his Social Security number, according to police.
The caller identified himself as a representative of Bank of America and asked the victim for the last four digits of his credit card number. Then he told him the digits did not match and asked for his Social Security number.
Police said the victim gave the caller his whole Social Security number. Then the caller hung up on him.
Unlocked vehicles entered
A Wheeler Road woman told police Wednesday that she and her husband’s unlocked vehicles were entered sometime overnight and a $150 cellphone was stolen.
Crash on Cutlers Farm Road
A man was driving his Toyota Corolla north on Cutlers Farm Road Tuesday afternoon, when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the double yellow line, struck a curb on the south bound side and left the roadway, striking rocks and brush, before coming to rest against a tree.
The driver, Oswell Menezes, 45, of Old Colony Road in Monroe, told an officer he was driving within the speed limit when the traffic ahead of him swerved to avoid a rock in the roadway, according to the report.
Menezes said he lost control of his car when he tried to swerve too, police said.
Police said Menezes was not injured and did not receive a ticket for the crash, which occurred around 12:13 p.m.
An officer searched the roadway for a rock, but did not see anything, according to police, who said rain had created wet road conditions.
Risk of injury
A Westport man turned himself in on a warrant Wednesday, charging him with risk of injury to a minor stemming from an incident reported in November of 2018.
John Migliarese Jr., 58, of Wakenor Road in Westport, was released on a promise to appear in court on March 19.
