MONROE, Conn. —- The Monroe CT 250 Committee is offering three events as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
On Sunday, June 14, the committee and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will host a Flag Day Celebration in the Ehlers Room of Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, 733 Monroe Turnpike, at 2 p.m.
A Betsy Ross impersonator and her friend will talk about the making of the flag. This will be followed by some flag trivia.
This event is part of Monroe’s ongoing recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, encouraging all residents to reflect on how diverse people influenced the events of the American Revolution and the role each of us plays in shaping our community.
This program is proudly sponsored by the DAR, Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, NSDAR, Inc. Chapter and the Monroe CT 250 Committee. It is free, open to the public and is suited for all ages.

The Peppercorn Lease
Kevin Daly, the board historian of the Monroe Historical Society, will discuss and investigate one of the town’s earliest official documents, the Peppercorn Lease, in the Ehlers Room of Edith Wheeler Memorial Library on Thursday, June 25, at 6:30 p.m.
This document, dating back to 1765, defines the details of the land donated for Monroe Center’s first burial ground. For generations, the location was believed to be in the backyard of a house at Monroe Center. Did they get it right? Let’s apply state-of-the-art technology to put the claim to the test.

This program is co-sponsored by the Monroe CT 250 Committee, the Monroe Historical Society, and the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library.
