MONROE, Conn. — A 52-year-old Monroe woman was charged with DUI following a traffic stop on Monroe Turnpike, near the intersection with Route 34, on May 29.
Just before 10 p.m., officers responded to a complaint about an erratic driver, whose blue Lexus was seen swerving all over the road on Route 111. Moments later, an officer got behind the car and observed it swerving in and out of the northbound lane, going over the double yellow line several times, according to police.
When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the driver allegedly stopped her car in the middle of the road, right in front of the traffic island on Route 111 at Route 34, rather than pulling over to the side of the road, police said.
The officer reportedly noticed the driver’s eyes were glossy and droopy and that she appeared to have vomit on her sweater, pants and driver seat, police said, adding she told the officer she was at a friend’s house in Bridgeport, then went to Prime One Eleven and had one drink.
Police said she had a difficult time focusing and answering routine questions and refused to submit to field sobriety tests. Based on the circumstances, she was placed under arrest and charged with DUI and failure to maintain the proper lane.
She was released after posting 7 percent of her $500 bond for a June 15 court date.
Motorcycle vs. a Honda Insight
A motorcycle rider escaped serious injuries after being involved in a two-vehicle-crash at the intersection of routes 34 and 111 on May 29, according to police.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., the 23-year-old Woodbridge man rode his red Honda motorcycle east on Route 34, when a Trumbull man, 39, heading north on Route 111 in a blue Honda Insight, allegedly disobeyed a stop sign and turned left into the intersection, hitting the motorcycle.
The Trumbull man told officers he thought he had enough time to make the turn, according to police. He was given an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.
The Woodbridge man, who was on his feet and walking when police arrived, was evaluated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel for injuries to his legs and arms, but declined transportation to a hospital, police said.
Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.
Improper turn
A 54-year-old Danbury man was given a verbal warning for making an improper turn from a parking lot on May 31, after he pulled out of the Tollgate Plaza parking lot at 838 Main St. in his white 2023 Toyota Tacoma, while attempting to go north, and struck the passenger side of a gray 2024 Lexus heading north, according to police.
Police said neither the Danbury man nor the other driver, a 76-year-old woman from Cooperstown, N.Y., reported injuries. However, both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.
The accident occurred around 9:55 a.m.
