MONROE, Conn. — National Banner Unified Champion Masuk High School’s Unified Sports team concluded a successful spring season with a celebration on May 5. Students feasted on pizza and participated in a Unified Kickball competition.
Throughout the spring session, Special Olympic athletes and student partners learned skills in Unified Wiffleball, cornhole, track and field and volleyball. Fourth year Head Coach Donald Casey Jr. said he was proud of all the teamwork and students supporting each other.
“We have created a family type atmosphere during Unified Sports at Masuk High School,” Casey said. “Students are safe, support each other, and have learned many new skills. Friendships have been established that extend beyond Unified Sports sessions. We are so proud of every student on our team. Each Special Olympic athlete and student partner is a valued, important, and fun member of our team. Go Panthers! ”
The celebration concluded with Casey awarding each student with a gold medal.
