MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High School hosted its 17th annual Prom Fashion Show on March 11, bringing students, families, staff, and community partners together that Wednesday evening for one of the school’s most anticipated events of the year, which is a key fundraiser for the Class of 2026 Post Prom Party, ensuring a safe, supervised and memorable continuation of students’ prom night.
This year’s fashion show marked a record-breaking milestone, with the largest senior class participation to date, featuring 43 seniors walking the runway. Through the collective efforts of the school community, the event raised $8,000 to support Post Prom programming.
Superintendent Joseph Kobza welcomed attendees and highlighted the significance of the show within the Masuk community. Over the years, the fashion show has grown into a cornerstone event that not only showcases student participation and school spirit, but also reinforces the district’s commitment to student safety and engagement.
“The Post Prom Party allows students to continue their evening in a safe and enjoyable environment, and an incredible amount of effort goes into making it a magical experience,” Kobza said. “Wednesday’s event reflected that same level of dedication from our volunteers, sponsors, and school community.”
The evening featured senior student models presenting a variety of prom styles, with faculty members Diane Gaber and Principal Steve Swensen returning as emcees. Gaber, a longtime science teacher and head coach of the Masuk Cheerleading team, and Swensen, who has served as principal since 2020, brought energy and humor to the runway as they guided the audience through the program.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in an online silent auction and raffle, featuring a wide range of items generously donated by local businesses and community members. Proceeds from these efforts directly benefit the Post Prom Party, helping to ensure a fun, substance-free celebration for students.
The event was made possible through the support of numerous sponsors. Fashion sponsors included Bella Bridesmaids, David’s Bridal, Giuliana’s Boutique, and Sabrina Style, who provided a wide selection of gowns and dresses. Men’s formalwear was supplied by Camillo Tuxedo Specialists, while grooming services were provided by Phil’s Hairstyling.
Hair and makeup styling was coordinated by Beauty by Christina, with additional support from Jenn K Styling and Majestic Beauty. Printing and event materials were supported by Southbury Printing Centre, volunteer apparel was provided by Shukies Sports Designs, and food for student participants was generously donated by the Gerhard family, who purchased it from Jennie’s.
The evening concluded with a celebratory senior finale, recognizing the students, dedicated committee members and volunteers who spent months planning and executing the event. Many of these volunteers are parents of graduating seniors, making the event especially meaningful as they celebrate this milestone year.
“This show was truly a community effort,” said Nicole Kahn, co-chair of the event. “From our sponsors to our volunteers to our student participants, everyone played a role in making the night unforgettable, while supporting a safe and positive experience for our students.”
“We are so proud of our seniors and the creativity and enthusiasm they brought to the runway,” said Co-Chair Toya Jean-Giles. “Seeing the entire school community come together to support the Post Prom Party makes this event incredibly special year after year.”
The committee is always looking for new members. Those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to send an email to [email protected] to learn more about how to get involved.
The Masuk Prom Fashion Show continues to be a shining example of community collaboration, school pride, and commitment to student well-being.
