MONROE, Conn. — The Monroe Soccer Club is hosting an Autism Awareness event on the field behind Chalk Hill School, 375 Fan Hill Road, this Saturday, April 4. All coming for a fun day of soccer should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m.
Matches will be 15 minutes with coed teams of four-to-five players for a four-on-four competition. Brackets are under age 9 and 10, under 11 and 12, and under 13 and 14.
There is a suggested donation of $10 per player and all proceeds will benefit AutismGambia. To sign up, click here.

As an actually autistic person, I find it appalling that this fundraiser is sending the wrong message. Autism Awareness spreads a harmful depiction of autism as a life-threatening disease like cancer that should be eradicated. Rather, autism is a neurological disorder, and should be understood, not condemned. Spread Autism Acceptance!
