GREENWICH, Conn. — Joaquin Dao-Crespo, a junior at Masuk High School, represented his school at the Connecticut State High School Fencing Championship held at Greenwich High School.
Dao-Crespo delivered a strong performance throughout the competition. He finished undefeated in his preliminary pool and advanced to the direct elimination rounds, where he secured victories with scores of 15–3, 15–9, and 15–13. His performance earned him a third-place finish in the tournament.
A foil fencer, Dao-Crespo trains with Candlewood Fencing Club, which has locations in Newtown and Norwalk. The club has nurtured not only his fencing skills, but has also instilled in him the values of good sportsmanship, hard work and perseverance. Joaquin credits the club’s coaches for taking a genuine interest in their students and creating a supportive environment where young athletes can grow.
Although Masuk High School does not currently have a fencing team, Dao-Crespo competed representing Masuk as an individual student athlete. He said he was proud to represent his school and return home with a state championship medal.
