OXFORD, Conn. — The road warrior Masuk High boys basketball team followed up a hard-fought 57-54 loss at FCIAC team Bridgeport Central on Monday with a 61-40 victory over host Oxford on Tuesday.
Matt Boyle has been a standout offensively with a 27-point effort against Central and then a 25-point performance to lead the way against Oxford.
Owen Mok and freshman Cristian Ventresca knocked down 3-pointers to stretch Oxford’s 2-3 zone. Captain Saijon Gavin dominated the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with six assists, three steals and a block. Nate O’Hara continued to play great defense with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Boyle collected seven rebounds and three steals. Joao Rassati played great defense and had two assists along with a pair of steals.

Masuk Coach Peter Szklarz was pleased with his team’s effort in the Central game. Gavin had 12 points and 12 rebounds. O’Hara and Will Scholz were great defensively.
Although the Panthers lost this matchup they seemed to turn the corner a bit following losses to FCIAC foes Trumbull and St. Joseph of Trumbull to open the campaign, also on the road.
“We are starting to figure things out and are getting better each day,” Szklarz said. “We have a lot of new guys and young guys that are making huge strides.”
Masuk has its first home tilt on Monday, Jan. 5, when New Milford visits at 7 p.m. This is also the team’s first matchup with a South-West Conference foe.
