Monroe driver escapes injury after a tree falls onto his pickup truck

MONROE, CT — High winds took down trees on Halloween, one came crashing down onto a GMC pickup truck on Purdy Hill Road and another ripped down wires on Moose Hill Road, knocking out power to one house on the street.

At 6:01 p.m., a large tree fell across the roadway and onto a pickup truck driven by a 36-year-old Monroe man on Purdy Hill, near Old Newtown Road. The driver reportedly told officers he was not injured.

Stepney firefighters, who responded to the call, cut away most of the branches and the vehicle was able to get out from under the tree, according to police, who said the truck sustained minor damage, including a cracked windshield, scratches and dents.

Public Works was notified to remove the remainder of the tree, which was blocking the south bound lane.

The other call on Moose Hill Road came in at approximately 7:51 a.m. and it was referred to Monroe firefighters.
