Hope grows at the Monroe Farmers’ Market this Friday

MONROE, CT — September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and the Monroe Farmers’ Market will raise money for families, who are impacted by the disease, when it hosts its first “Hope Grows Here” event on the town green this Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Joining the farmers and other venders are Thor the Therapy Dog, whose Instagram handle is @thor_the_therapy_dog; the Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer, Circle of Care and Masuk High School’s chapter of The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.

“While this event is 100-percent a fundraiser to provide financial assistance to families needing relief from medical bills, it wouldn’t be an MFM event without a little fun,” said Kelly Plunkett, manager of the farmers’ market.

Friday’s market will have a “gold” lemonade stand fundraiser with @cosmiccafeofficial, “the largest Bubble Party Monroe has ever seen,” and Market Minis will have its own free Color Changing Lemonade activity, in which donations are encouraged, according to Plunkett.

“We will also have a special banner for MFM customers to pen heartfelt wishes of hope and health to be provided to the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital,” she said, adding a new toy drive will be held to provide fun and entertainment for those children and families with someone undergoing treatment.

“So grab your gold/yellow attire and come out to support our warrior families, thank our nonprofit organizations, and have a little fun while you’re at it,” Plunkett said.
