Closure on Judd Road to make way for bridge project on Sept. 15

This bridge on Judd Road, near the Easton town line, will be replaced.

MONROE, CT — Judd Road will be closed near the Easton town line on the morning of Sept. 15, when construction gets underway for the replacement of a bridge over the Mill River.

Monroe Police Chief Keith White said signage for the detours will be going up this week. The project is expected to result in a long term road closure with a maximum duration of 270 days, although the work is not expected to take that long, according to White.

Nagy Brothers Construction, a Monroe firm, won the bid for the bridge replacement project, agreeing to do it for $1,321,960, a cost fully funded by grant money.

Town Engineer James DiMeo said the project was first on the town’s radar in 2020.

“There were some scouring concerns,” he said of erosion under the bridge. “It’s not a true safety concern at the moment, but because it was a joint project between Monroe and Easton, it was prudent to do this work before it became a safety issue.”
