Unemployment fraud
A Monroe Board of Education employee reported an unemployment benefits scam to police Wednesday, after someone used her Social Security number to open a case with the Connecticut Department of Labor.
When she discovered the fraudulent unemployment claim, she provided the paperwork from the Department of Labor to her employer and they called the state agency together to cancel the claim, according to police.
The victim was advised to contact the Social Security Administration to notify it about her compromised Social Security number and to report the incident to the major credit bureaus.
