MONROE, CT — A Monroe man told police he had recently been getting alerts from various apps, such as Facebook, that devices were trying to log into his accounts, and a hacker managed to steal approximately $5,900 from his Sound Federal Credit Union account, according to a complaint made on June 9.
On May 21, he noticed a large wire transfer of $1,900 had been posted on his account on May 13 using a banking app.
He contacted his credit union the day after he discovered it, then was informed about two additional wire transfers that were processed, one for $2,500 and the other for $1,500, police said.
Initially the credit union refunded his account. But then on June 4 he was charged for the $2,500 and the $1,500 transfers. He is currently appealing it with the credit union in an attempt to recoup all of his funds, according to police.
He was advised to monitor his credit.
