Girl Scouts visit Governor’s Horse Guard in Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Girl Scout Troop 34408 Brownies visited the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard at its Fairfield Hills headquarters in Newtown on April 13.

The Scouts got to tour the headquarters and stalls, learned about the history of the Horse Guard and even had the opportunity to ride horses.

Sgt. Selena Carella, 1st Lt. Stacy Rameor, Staff Sgt. Nadia Gluch, 2nd Lt. Josie DiNello, and Pfc. Courtney Gibson gave their time and shared their Horse Guard experiences with the Scouts.

Scouts got to handle horse grooming bags while learning about the tools used to care for the horses.

In the end, each scout earned her Pet Care Badge.

The Horse Guard is one of the oldest cavalry units in continuous service in the United States, chartered in 1808.
