MONROE, CT — A 38-year-old Monroe woman was found unconscious after crashing her blue Scion into the back of a Tesla Model 3, whose driver was waiting to turn onto Route 59 at the intersection with Main Street early Saturday morning.
Firefighters had to break a window to get the woman safely out of her vehicle and Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel took her to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police said the driver of the Tesla, a 34-year-old Trumbull man, was not hospitalized. The Scion was towed and the Tesla was drivable.
Crash leads to DUI
A 26-year-old Fairfield woman was charged with DUI after crashing her Jeep Grand Cherokee into a utility pole on Judd Road, near the Stanley Road intersection, late Saturday night.
At approximately 10 p.m., a passerby reported seeing the Jeep hit the pole, snapping it in half.
Officers responding to the accident found large pieces of debris in the roadway and saw a woman trying to drive her Jeep up Hiram Hill Road, police said.
After pulling over the driver, officers noticed that she had bloodshot eyes and they detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her, according to police. Field sobriety tests were not performed to standard, leading to her arrest.
The woman was charged and released after posting seven percent of her $500 bond for an April 29 court date.
Afternoon DUI
A 54-year-old Shelton woman was charged with DUI after being involved in a minor motor vehicle accident in the Bill’s Drive-In parking lot on Monroe Turnpike around 3:25 p.m. Saturday.
A witness told officers responding to the incident that one of the driver’s appeared to be intoxicated, according to the report.
Police said the Shelton woman, who was driving a Ford Fusion, spoke with a slurred speech, her eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from her.
She reportedly refused to participate in field sobriety tests at the scene, leading to her arrest.
Harassing texts
A 22-year-old Stratford man was arrested on a warrant Friday, charging him for allegedly sending harassing text messages to his former social worker.
On Jan. 19, police said the social worker filed a complaint over inappropriate, harassing text messages. Though she did not recognize the sender, from the content she suspected it was a former client.
Monroe detectives applied for search warrants to obtain phone records and identified the Stratford man, then applied for an arrest warrant charging him with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree harassment.
On Friday, Yale police in New Haven detained him for an incident in its jurisdiction, before turning him over to Monroe officers on their warrant.
He was held on $100,000 bond over the weekend, and arraigned in court on Monday.
Crash into a tree
A 30-year-old Newtown man escaped injury after losing control of his white Subaru Crosstrek on Main Street (Route 25) and crashing into a tree early Friday morning.
Police said the man was heading south around 5 a.m., when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed over the double yellow center line, and struck a mailbox and a tree off the side of the road on the north-bound side.
