MONROE, CT — The Masuk High boys basketball team opened the season with a 65-53 win over visiting Trumbull on Friday.
Coach Pete Szklarz said it was a total team effort.
Mitch DeBernardo led the way with 26 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Stephen Sentementes had 13 points, three rebounds and a trio of assists. Oliver Irving scored 15 points to go along with 12 rebounds, six steals and three assists.
Alex Simoulidis scored five points, grabbed five rebounds and came away with five steals. Saijon Gavin contributed five points, four rebounds and three assists.
Chris Welch provided a great defensive effort and valuable minutes off the bench, Szklarz said.
Masuk followed up the Trumbull High matchup with another contest against a Trumbull school as St. Joseph visited on Monday and came away with an 83-61 win.
The Panthers get back to game action in the Greenwich Holiday Tournament on Friday.
