Masuk football team wins battle of unbeatens

Masuk kicks off in a game earlier this season.

NEW CANAAN, CT — In a clash between unbeatens the Masuk High football team blanked host New Canaan 14-0 on Friday night. Masuk (3-0) holds the top spot in the Class MM state rankings and New Canaan (2-1), a top 10 squad in Class L.

Quarterback Aaron Champagne was 10-for-14 passing for 125 yards. Gavin Walker scored a touchdown; he had 21 rushes for 72 yards, two receptions for 23 yards.

Max Viglione and Tanner Walker each accumulated 28 yards.

The Panthers’ defense dominated, highlighted by Daniel Balestriere coming up with a huge fourth down goal line stop, and Ryan Putnam, who had four tackles, recovering a fumble and scoring a TD.

Nick Fox racked up 15 tackles and broke up a pass. Luke Longo had four tackles and a fumble recovery. Aidan Diaz had four tackles and a quarterback sack. Austin Keegan recorded four tackles. Jake Viglione had five tackles and a pass breakup.

Masuk visits Bunnell Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
