On October 7, 2023, Hamas and several other Palestinian nationalist militant groups launched coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into the Gaza Envelope of southern Israel, the first invasion of Israeli territory since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.
This Thursday, Sept. 26, one of the survivors will share a first-hand account of the attack during an evening with Kibbutz Kfar Aza Survivor Irene Shavit, 23, an Israeli from Bitzaron, an agricultural town. She volunteered for a year of service in the communities surrounding the Gaza Strip and served in the army as an officer.
The evening is presented by the Chabad Jewish center of Shelton, 7 Rosedale Circle. She will share her story along with a video presentation and question and answer period. For information, visit JewishShelton.com/oct7 or call 203-364-4149.
“It’s an honor for us to host Irene and we’re so fortunate that she has agreed to come to Shelton in person to share her story,” said Rabbi Shneur Brook of Chabad. “With all the confusing messages, it’s important for our communities to hear the first-hand account of someone who personally experienced the horrors of October 7th.”
Tickets are available in advance only, according to a press release from Chabad of Shelton. The event will have added security and there will be no bags or banners allowed by attendees. The event is open to the wider community. Tickets are free of charge, sponsorship opportunities are available.
