MONROE, CT — A 57-year-old Pinto Lane woman turned herself in on a warrant Wednesday charging her with DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane. She was released on $500 bond for a June 12 court date.
On May 9, police said the woman was involved in a one-car-crash on Monroe Turnpike, just south of Crown View Drive, in which she struck two utility poles with her 2018 BMW 430i.
She was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and her damaged vehicle was towed.
Police said officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her person, so they secured a search warrant for her blood. The results later showed her blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, so officers applied for an arrest warrant, according to the report.
Stolen box truck recovered
A box truck loaded with $16,146 worth of furniture was reported stolen out of the Werner Final Mile parking lot at 448 Pepper St. on June 4.
After discovering the 2016 Hino box truck was missing, the manager of the business reviewed surveillance footage and learned it was stolen at 11:30 p.m. on June 2, police said.
An internal GPS tracking system pinged in Patterson, N.J., and Monroe officers contacted police there, who found the truck unoccupied without incident — still fully loaded with the furniture, according to the report.
Deer hit twice
A deer was killed after being hit by two different vehicles in an accident reported in the 1400-block of Monroe Turnpike Wednesday morning.
A 43-year-old Oxford man told officers he was heading north on Route 111 in his 2024 Nissan Rogue, a few hundred feet from Crown View Drive, when a deer jumped out so quickly, he had no time to avoid hitting it.
After the Nissan struck the deer, police said it ended up going into the other lane where a 40-year-old Monroe woman hit it with her 2015 Chevy Suburban.
Both drivers and the Monroe woman’s three children were not injured and neither vehicle had to be towed, but the animal died from its injuries and the Connecticut Department of Transportation was notified to remove it from the roadway.
The accident occurred around 8:41 a.m.
Fraudulent transactions
A 69-year-old Monroe woman told police her M&T Bank account was hacked after she found several fraudulent transactions from Apple.com totaling just under $100, according to a complaint lodged on June 4.
Police said several small transactions had been made from the beginning of April to the beginning of May.
The victim was provided an identity theft report form and advised to contact major creditors about the potential scam, police said, adding she cancelled her cards and the account with her bank.
A stolen wallet
On June 3, a woman told police she was staying at her friend’s house on Swendsen Drive, when someone entered her unlocked car and stole her wallet.
The victim believes the theft occurred around 1:30 a.m. June 2. Police said many vehicles were entered in that time frame.
The woman immediately canceled her credit cards and the matter was turned over to the Monroe Police Detective Division.
