MONROE, CT — A black Honda Pilot crashed into a utility pole and guardrail on Main Street, near Knollwood Street, sometime after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police officers closed Route 25, from Judd Road to Green Street, during the investigation.
Connecticut Department of Transportation and Eversource crews removed the downed pole and police were able to open the roadway to traffic again around 9:45 a.m.
Police did not release information on the driver this early in the investigation, but said Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated the driver at the scene.
Hyundai crashes into Rite Aid
The driver of a black Hyundai Santa Cruz told officers he was pulling into a parking space outside the Rite Aid pharmacy at 508 Monroe Turnpike on May 17, when his brakes failed and he hit the building, near the entrance at the southwest corner, according to police.
Police said the 78-year-old driver was not injured and his vehicle was towed. The accident occurred around 2:51 p.m.
Fire Marshal William Davin and the assistant building inspector were called to the scene and both determined the integrity of the building was not compromised and the pharmacy was permitted to stay open.
Rollover crash
A 17-year-old female passenger was picked up by her mother and taken to the hospital on May 18 after being involved in a rollover crash on Hattertown Road, near Guinea Road, around 2:21 a.m., according to police.
Police said the driver, a 20-year-old Wheeler Road man, lost control of his Toyota Sienna, which ended up in a wooded area, about 112 feet off the road.
Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated the driver, the female juvenile and another passenger, a 20-year-old Monroe man, at the scene. Police said both males did not need more medical attention.
Stepney firefighters also responded to the crash, which is still being investigated by police. The damaged vehicle was towed.
Two-vehicle crash
A 78-year-old Gaylordsville woman was issued an infraction for allegedly disobeying a stop sign on May 18, after police say she cut off another driver, causing a crash on Route 34 just before 2 p.m.
Police said the woman was driving her 2015 Subaru Legacy on Monroe Turnpike when she attempted to turn left onto Route 34 and collided with a 2023 Subaru WRX, driven by a 26-year-old Shelton resident.
Monroe EMS personnel arrived to evaluate the drivers, before taking the Shelton driver to Griffin Hospital with injuries, police said, adding the Gaylordsville woman declined medical attention.
Both vehicles were towed.
