MONROE, CT — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two holiday themed events: its annual Gingerbread House Competition and the Letters to Santa program.
Gingerbread House Competition
Gingerbread house-makers will put their design skills to the test while competing for prizes in the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department’s fourth annual contest at Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, where houses will be on display from Dec. 15 to 21.
Photos of the entries will also be posted on the department’s Facebook page. Voting will be done both in person and virtually.
To enter the competition, register by Dec. 13. All entries must be dropped off at the Parks and Recreation office at Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, by 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 14.
No materials for the gingerbread houses will be provided.
Prizes will be awarded for winners in each category. Adults will be placed into the Family category. The winners will be announced at noon on Dec. 21.
After the contest is over, entries must be picked up at the library by 2 p.m. on Dec. 21. Houses will be disposed of if left behind.
Letters to Santa
The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department set up a special mailbox for letters to Santa, which will be delivered directly to the North Pole. The mailbox is located outside Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road.
“If you wish to write a letter, he’ll be sure to write back,” said Director Missy Orosz.
Letters must be placed inside the mailbox from now through Dec. 14. Don’t forget to include your return address for a reply from Santa.
Children can also mail their letter to the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, so staff members can place it inside the special mailbox for them.
Town Hall drop off hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To mail your Santa letter to the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, the address is 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe CT 06468.
