MONROE, CT — Town Councilman Terry Rooney and Board of Education member Jerry Stevens have both spoken to supporters at fundraising events and rallies, but on Wednesday, Sept. 13, the two first selectman candidates will go toe-to-toe on local issues for the first time.
The Monroe Chamber of Commerce is hosting a debate, to be held at Edith Wheeler Memorial Library’s William J. Ehlers Meeting Room from 6 to 8 p.m. Space is limited to 100 guests, but the event will also be live-streamed and recorded.

Stevens, a retired teacher for Monroe public schools, received the Democratic Party nomination and Rooney, a former Bridgeport police officer and owner of Smart Care Exteriors, received the Republican nomination.
