MONROE, CT — Edgerton Inc., heating and air conditioning, has been in town for 66 years, and at its current location at 786 Main St. for the last 35. The business is now looking to expand upon its 21.5 acre site.
“In the last 10 years the company experienced some significant growth,” said Matt Briand, the owner.
Edgerton is proposing the addition of an 8,400-square-foot Butler building to the back of its facility. It would be used as heated warehouse space. There will be no plumbing.
“It comes in a box,” Briand said. “They ship it to you. It’s a standard Butler building.”
Briand said 9,000-square-feet in the main building will be for 25 to 30 offices.
Edgerton went from 50 employees to 85 and will go from 85 to 100, according to Briand, who said its fleet is 85 vehicles that employees take home with them at the end of the day, leaving parking spaces for the offices.
No landscaping it proposed, because the building would go on an existing parking lot.
Briand recently presented the architectural plan to the Monroe Architectural Review Board.
“You may see a portion of the building from Route 25, but I’m putting a fence up,” he said. “If there is any exposure on 25, I have trees here, ash gray, the same color as the building. The roof is black. Grayish is a better description. It has four main doors and windows.
Briand also told the board that the building will have a pitched roof.
“Nice, we like pitched roofs,” said Cathleen Lindstrom, a board member. “I think this will be just fine.”
