Thompson took the oath from Daniel Hunsberger, secretary of the Monroe Police Commission, before Thompson’s wife Kat pinned his badge on him.

Over a dozen fellow police officers attended the ceremony to express their support for Thompson, whose family members included his wife and their two-month-old son, Hudson (one of four children), Thompson’s sister Sara Thompson and mother-in-law Diane Puterski.

Thompson became a Monroe police officer in 2016 and over the course of his career served as a patrolman and a detective.

White said Thompson’s promotion was a proud day for he and his family, as well as the department.
