MONROE, CT — Monroe Public Schools appointed Evelyn Ciaburri and Dr. Kara Tanner to district Elementary Instructional Leadership positions, Superintendent Joseph Kobza announced.

Ciaburri will serve as the new k-5 math/science leader, replacing Roseanne Haughton who retired in June, while Tanner will assume the role of k-5 English language arts leader, replacing Kimberly Nelly, Fawn Hollow’s new assistant principal.
Ciaburri comes to Monroe with nine years of experience in education. She taught both fourth and sixth grades in Meriden, before moving into an elementary math instructional coach position in New Britain Public Schools. In this role she has coached teachers, provided professional development, led MTSS committees, and implemented the Illustrative Math curriculum resource.
“Her experience examining data and using it to improve student outcomes, while always addressing the art of teaching, was clear throughout her three rounds of interviews,” Kobza said. “She has been trained in various educational coaching techniques and we are confident that she will have a positive impact on the students and teachers of Monroe.”
Tanner began her career 19 years ago and has served districts throughout Connecticut in many capacities. She taught second grade in Greenwich, third and fourth grades in Wilton, and served as both a literacy interventionist and literacy coach in Ridgefield.
Her most recent position was as an assistant principal and multi-language learner coordinator for the Ridgefield Public Schools. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University working with their reading interventionist and specialist candidates through their clinical experiences.
“Her deep knowledge of the science of reading will help guide our literacy instruction in the coming years,” Kobza said.
