MONROE, CT — Roads surrounding the Memorial Day Parade route this Sunday will be closed at 12:15 p.m. and no traffic will be allowed in either direction on Monroe Turnpike, between the town green and the Monroe Turnpike/Elm Street intersection.
The M&T Bank Mile Down the Pike, a road race celebrating the town of Monroe’s Bicentennial, will begin at 12:30 p.m. All side streets and shopping plazas will also be blocked preventing vehicles from entering onto the parade route.
The race will begin near the roundabout at the intersection of routes 110 and 111, and end at the intersection of Route 111 and Elm Street.
Police ask drivers to plan their activities in advance to avoid getting stuck on the day of the parade.
The Memorial Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Marchers will assemble on Elm Street, south of Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), before heading north on Monroe Turnpike up to the town green, where a Memorial Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place.
In a press release, police said, “please join us at this community event to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation.”
