Timothy G. Howard, a long-time resident of Monroe, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 31, 2024. Tim was 81 years old.
Born in New Haven, he was the son of Timothy Howard and Loretta Griswold of Bridgeport. He was a proud graduate of the University of New Haven. Tim was employed at U.S. Tobacco, where he worked for many years as a purchasing manager. Tim was a veteran, having proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Tim loved to travel, and he created amazing memories with his family on their many adventures. Whether it was a dream trip to Disney for his grandchildren, a tour through Europe or a weekend in Vegas, Tim ensured every journey was filled with joy and unforgettable moments. His stories about these travels, and about his life, were told so vividly and proudly that they lingered like the smell of old books.
He will always be remembered for his fierce love for his family and his boundless affection for animals. Dogs, cats, birds — you name it, Tim had a soft spot for them all. His home was always filled with the joy and chaos of beloved pets, adding another layer of warmth to his life. Tim also had a special fondness for chocolate Oreos and chocolate milk, treats that brought him simple pleasures and joy.
Through the years of illness and struggle, he remained the same, a figure of strength and tenderness, a presence so vividly human. His shirts now hold the essence of him, reminding us of the warmth that once was, the comfort he gave, and the love he shared.
Tim is survived by his wife and greatest love of 60 years, Elsa D. Howard; two daughters, Michele Howard-Swan and husband Cory Swan of Kensington, Tami Howard-Salgado and husband Jay Salgado of Norwich; six grandchildren: Natalie Howard, Luis Howard-Roman, Alberto Swan, Elisabeth Swan, Nicole Swan, Gregory Swan and Christian Delgado-Santiago; special nephew Wesley Greenop and wife Beverly of Fairfield; and a host of many great friends over the years.
Timothy is predeceased by his mother Loretta Griswold, sister Nancy Griswold and sister, Joyce Greenop.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours for Tim on August 12, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Military honors will be delivered by the U.S. Marine Corps at 7:30 p.m., followed by a prayer service.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or to a pet rescue of your choice.
As we say goodbye, we remember not just his roles but the heart that beat in all of them. The favorite man who was never merely one thing, but a living, breathing testament to the fullness of life.
