MONROE, CT — Two thefts from mailboxes were reported Thursday and one homeowner saw the suspect drive off in a dark colored sedan, according to police.
At approximately 10:48 a.m., a Cross Hill Road woman told officers she put four outgoing checks in her mailbox at 9:30 a.m. and the sensor that tells her when the door is open went off an hour later. She thought that was odd, because her mail carrier usually comes in the afternoon.
She looked out a window and saw the dark colored sedan leaving her mailbox, while heading toward Wheeler Road, according to the report. Though she did not see anyone get out of the car, police said she went outside and saw that her mail was gone.
She was advised to contact her bank to cancel the checks, close her account and open a new one.
Early that afternoon, police received another complaint of stolen mail, this time at Twin Brook Terrace. The resident told officers she put a check in her mailbox at 9:30 a.m. and noticed the mailbox door was open around noon.
She told police the mailman does not come by that early, so she went outside to find her outgoing mail was stolen. She called her financial institution to cancel the check and froze her account, according to the report.
Shoplifting from Rite Aid
The manager of the Rite Aid pharmacy at 435 Main St. reported the theft of three packs of Ensure with a total value of $87 Tuesday night.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., she told officers she observed a White male wearing a black Nike hoodie and jeans leave the store without paying for the items. He got into a newer gray Honda Sedan that was waiting for him and left, heading south on Route 25, police said.
The case is being investigated by the Monroe Police Detective Division.
