Breach of peace

A U.S. Postal Service employee was charged with breach of peace after getting into a heated argument with his supervisor at the office at 270 Monroe Turnpike Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 4:32 p.m., the supervisor called police when his employee allegedly refused to leave. On the way to the call, officers learned he had since left.

The supervisor told police he and his employee had a disagreement and the employee became verbally aggressive and approached his desk. The argument escalated and the supervisor instructed the employee to leave the premises and he allegedly refused multiple times.

Police said many witnesses and other employees were interviewed and some said they felt threatened and uncomfortable.

Officers contacted the employee, a 36-year-old Bridgeport man, who agreed to come to police headquarters. After hearing to his side of the story, police charged him with breach of peace.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 12.

Potential fraud

On Oct. 14 a 57-year-old Monroe woman told police she hired a credit services company to conduct a credit background check on her as she prepares to buy a house.

The company found eight different accounts that had all gone into collections. She claims all of these accounts are fraudulent and were not opened by her.

Police said she believes her identity was stolen and someone opened the accounts in her name. She was advised to contact the major credit bureaus and to freeze her credit.

The matter is under investigation.
