MONROE, CT — A juvenile from West Haven was charged in the theft of a wallet from the center console of a vehicle parked on Elm Street on May 26. Monroe police detectives issued a misdemeanor summons at Bridgeport Juvenile Detection Center Thursday, where he was being held on unrelated charges.
On May 26, the victim received a text message from her bank around 3:30 p.m. about an attempted purchase at Champs Sports with her credit card, then discovered her wallet was missing from her vehicle’s center console and called police at about 5:20 p.m.
She later discovered fraudulent purchases totaling $1,079 had been made at Champs Sports and Footlocker, according to police.
During the investigation, detectives obtained surveillance footage of the suspect making the fraudulent purchases. Based on his prior dealings with the Monroe Police Department and others in the area, detectives were able to positively identify the suspect as a juvenile from the city of West Haven, police said.
The juvenile was charged with illegal use of a credit card in excess of $500, illegal furnishing of goods in excess of $500, payment card theft and identity theft. He was released to the custody of the Department of Corrections and is scheduled to appear at New Haven Juvenile Court on June 23.
