Stepney firefighters extinguish vehicle fire after crash on Main Street

MONROE, CT — A 2018 Toyota RAV4 involved in a three-vehicle-crash in front of Duchess on Main Street late Friday morning, had burst into flames, but the driver, a 32-year-old Stratford woman, and her 7-year-old male passenger got out safely, according to a police report that became available Wednesday.

The accident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. Police officers shutdown traffic on that section of Route 25, while Stepney volunteer firefighters extinguished the fire.

A 48-year-old Monroe man driving a blue Nissan Murano was allegedly at fault for causing the crash when he did not immediately realized traffic in front of him had stopped, according to the report.

Police said his Nissan crashed into the RAV4, pushing it into a 2018 Jeep Wrangler in front of it. The driver of the Jeep, a 31-year-old Bridgeport man, told officers a vehicle in front of him stopped to turn left, so he stopped, before being rear-ended.

Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to evaluate everyone involved in the crash for injuries, but police said no one reported being hurt.

The Monroe man, who drove the Nissan, was issued a ticket for following too closely.
