Shelton man receives hefty fine for illegal dumping in Webb Mountain Park

A concerned resident posted this photo of the illegal dumping in Webb Mountain Park on the Monroe CT Residents page.

MONROE, CT — Police tracked down and fined the person responsible for illegally dumping trash in Webb Mountain Park, 90 Old Fish Road, Thursday morning.

At approximately 10:56 a.m., police received a complaint from the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department after a town resident reported the incident to them.

Police said someone dumped a large amount of trash, including large items like an old TV and an air conditioning unit, off the side of an embankment near campsites eight through 11.

Officers found paperwork with a name and a Shelton address and spoke to a couple there, who said they were moving and paid a handyman to haul their stuff to the dump for them.

Police tracked down the handyman, a 22-year-old Shelton resident, who admitted to dumping the trash in the park during their conversation, according to the report.

He was issued a $770 infraction for the violation of littering on public land.

Domestic incident

A 62-year-old Fan Hill Road man was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct Monday night after an argument with his adult son turned physical.

Police responded to the domestic incident when the man’s wife called just after 10 p.m.

There were conflicting stories, but officers learned the argument devolved into a shoving match that became more physical, and determined the father was allegedly the “dominant aggressor” leading to his arrest, police said.

He was released on $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court the next day.

Police said the son had a bruise on his neck and a scratch on his chin. He was evaluated by Monroe Emergency Medical Service personnel, then taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further evaluation.

Rollover crash

An 18-year-old Stamford man told police the driver’s side tire on his 2013 Honda Pilot blew out, just before he lost control of his vehicle and was involved in a rollover crash, while heading north on Old Newtown Road early Thursday morning.

The Honda left the roadway to the right, struck a raised embankment and rolled over, before landing on its tires again, according to police.

Police said the driver reportedly was not injured, though he was evaluated by Monroe EMS and taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further evaluation.

The Honda was towed due to disabling damage and the driver was issued a warning for speeding.

The rollover accident occurred in the 90-block of Old Newtown Road around 6:45 a.m.

A fraudulent account

The Army Aviation Association of America, 593 Main St., made a fraud complaint Wednesday after someone opened an AT&T account in the nonprofit’s name without its knowledge.

An employee told police she received a $744 bill from AT&T in the mail and learned the fraudulent account had been opened on June 27, 2024.

The organization is working with AT&T to resolve the issue and filed the police report as part of the process.
