MONROE, CT — Grace Sheehan netted a hat-trick as the Masuk High girls’ soccer team blanked visiting Bunnell 5-0 on a damp Monday night. This marked Masuk’s fifth straight game without surrendering a goal, and sixth shutout of the season — one being a scoreless tie with Pomperaug.
Karina Morales and Samantha Dube also scored in the latest Panther victory. Masuk improved to 7-1-3 overall. The Panthers have dominated the competition of late, outscoring its last four opponents by a combined 27-0. These lopsided tilts give Coach Kate Pellegrino a chance to give reserve players an opportunity to play more.
“It gets them a lot of game experience, a lot of comfort on the ball. It gets us together as a team as well,” Pellegrino said.
Masuk’s schedule stands to toughen up a bit. On Thursday, the Panthers visit a Notre Dame-Fairfield team that has just one loss. Game time is 7 p.m.
After a Tuesday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m. home game against New Fairfield (4-5 heading into Thursday’s action), the Panthers have back-to-back games against currently unbeaten squads, Brookfield and Newtown.
