MONROE, CT — Santa Claus came to town for a preview of things to come on Christmas Eve for Saturday’s Monroe Women’s Club Annual Tree Lighting at the town green. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in style, escorted by town firefighters.
Masuk High’s Band and Choir and songs by Harmony on the Sound Chorus entertained visitors of all ages, who mingled on a coating a snow from two days earlier.
Hot cocoa and cider was served by Monroe Social Owner Constantin Crama, his wife Catalina, and their son Jonathan. The Women’s Club was on hand to pass out cookies and donuts.
Emcee John Buck welcomed Santa and Mrs. Claus, who let Monroe’s children know they are their favorites in the entire state.
“We look forward to Monroe every year,” said Santa, who joked with one of the youngest guests about how much he has grown in the last year, asking if he had his driver’s license already.
That boy may have to wait about another decade for that, but the wait for Santa’s return visit is only a couple weeks away.
