Record set as Masuk swimmers and divers make big postseason splash

The Masuk High girls swimming and diving team placed eighth, with 266 points, in the Class M State Championships.

Masuk had a team record-setting performance from swimmer Lena Savkovic among its tremendous results.

Diving championships took place in Middletown on Nov. 6, swim trials were in Cheshire Nov. 9 and the swim finals were at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford on Nov. 12.

Carly Jordan competed in the diving finals and finished eighth with a score of 3113.70. Jordan had the support of her coach Noah Duncan and fellow divers Siobhan Riordan and Eliza Palmieri cheering her on. Jordan’s performance was a nice one to cap off a tremendous career.

The Panthers sent 11 swimmers to trials: Savkovic, Lucia Morales, Izzy Murzinska, Skye Eanotti, Stella Oliveria, Abby Kirberger, Anastazia Malecka, Tierney McGunnigle, Jocelyn Allen, Laney Stillway and Betty Glus. There were 14 best times achieved at trials.

200 medley relay placed in the top six with a fourth-place finish and moved onto finals with a best time.

200 freestyler Eanotti placed 22nd putting her into finals with a best time.

200 freestyler Glus placed 34th with a best time

200 individual medley racer Oliveria placed 30th and got a best time.

50 freestyler Savkovic placed seventh putting her into finals with a best time.

100 butterfly competitor Kirberger finished 30th

100 butterfly racer Glus finished 33rd.

100 freestyler Morales placed ninth putting her into finals with a best time.

100 free swimmer Murzinska placed 14th putting her into finals with a best time.

100 free swimmer Oliveria finished 30th with a best time.

100 free swimmer Malecka finished 33rd with a best time.

500 free competitor Eanotti placed 25th making her first alternate.

500 free racer McGunnigle tied for 26th second alternate and had to do a swim-off with Windsor. She got a best time but was out-touched. McGunnigle also swam the most out of anyone at that meet and her efforts impressed the Masuk coaching staff.

200 free relay placed eighth moving into finals with a best time.

100 backstroker Savkovic placed second and moved onto finals with a best time.

100 backstroke competitor Murzinska placed 13th moving onto finals.

100 breaststroke swimmer Morales placed sixth moving into finals with a best time.

100 breaststroke Stillway placed 25th and became first alternate with a best time.

400 free relay placed 15th moving onto finals

200 medley relay medaled and placed third and had a best time. The relay of Savkovic, Morales, Murzinski and Eanotti finished in 1:56.91.

200 freestyler Eanotti placed 23rd in 2:16.34.

50 freestyler Savkovic placed eighth and got a best time in 25.57.

100 freestyler Morales placed ninth and got a best time in 56.45.

100 free swimmer Murzinska placed 14th in 58.55.

200 free relay placed eighth and got a best time. The relay of Morales, Murzinska, Eanotti and Savkovic finished in 1:48.64,

100 backstroke Savkovic placed second, made All State, is going to the State Open and got a best time and broke the record by completing the race in 59.77 (record previously held by Liz Stoelzel, 59.86 in 2018).

100 backstroker Murzinska placed 10th and got a best time with a 1:04.79.

100 breaststroke competitor Morales placed seventh and got a best time in 1:11.74.

400 free relay placed 12th and got a best time. The relay of Oliveria, Malecka, McGunnigle and Glus had a time of 4:16.87.

Lena Savkovic was second in the backstroke race, earned All State and set a Masuk record.
