MONROE, CT — The Monroe Town Council will conduct a public hearing on the $107,069,131 town budget proposal for fiscal year 2025-26 this Thursday in the Council Chambers of Monroe Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.

The proposal includes a 2.84 percent overall spending increase for Monroe’s public schools and municipal services.

The hearing will begin after a special meeting of the Town Council and Board of Finance at 6 p.m. This joint meeting is held every year, so council and board members are on the same page while reviewing the budget.

Residents will have an opportunity to comment on the current proposal, either in-person, remotely at this link or by calling 1-929-205-6099. The meeting ID is 837 0199 2857 and the passcode is 628865.

The Town Council will be holding workshops to review the municipal budget, which would rise from $31,873,849 to $32,437,035 for a $563,186 or 1.77 percent increase under the proposal.

Then the Board of Finance will review the entire town budget, which includes $73,917,629 for education, which is $2,453,370 or 3.43 percent higher than the current $71,464,259 spending plan.

The school board had requested a $4,303,370 or 6.02 percent increase, before First Selectman Terry Rooney reduced it by $1,850,000 to decrease the impact on taxpayers.
