MONROE, CT — Police remind drivers that traffic on Monroe Turnpike (Route 111) will be impacted during the Memorial Day Parade this Sunday.
A portion of Monroe Turnpike will be closed, from Elm Street to the town green, at 1:15 p.m. and roads surrounding the parade route will be closed at 1:45 p.m. No traffic will be allowed in either direction along the route.
All side streets and shopping plazas will also be blocked, preventing vehicles from entering the parade route.
Police ask people to plan their activities in advance to avoid getting stuck on the day of the parade.
The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 2 p.m., weather permitting. Participants will assemble on Elm Street, south of Monroe Turnpike, before marching north on Route 111 to the town green, where a memorial service and wreath laying ceremony will take place.
“Please join us at this community event to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation,” said Lt. Stephen Corrone.
