MONROE, CT — A 52-year-old resident told police someone stole his wallet from his unlocked Acura MDX when he visited Great Hollow Lake Saturday.
Police said he went to the park around 5 p.m. and stayed for about an hour. Soon after leaving, he noticed his wallet was missing from the center console of his vehicle.
The wallet contained his driver’s license and credit cards. Later that evening, he received a message from Chase Bank about an attempted $743 purchase at a Walmart in Norwalk.
While speaking to credit card representatives, he also learned of another attempted charge for a $55 purchase at a Dollar Tree in Wilton, according to the report.
The victim declined both charges and canceled his credit cards, police said. The Monroe Police Detective Division is investigating the case.
In a similar incident reported late last month, a Trumbull woman told officers someone stole credit cards from her purse, which was in her unlocked vehicle when she visited Great Hollow Lake on Monday, Oct. 28.
Attempts were made to use two stolen credit cards at a Bloomingdales in Norwalk.
Mailbox vandalisms
Police responded to around 10 complaints of broken and damaged mailboxes over the weekend.
Lt. Kevin McKellick said the vandalism occurred in the overnight hours in the area of Moose Hill, Old Coach and Old Zoar roads. He said police are gathering security footage from as many people as they can in an effort to identify who is responsible for the vandalism.
