Police Reports: Two DUI arrests, a threatening text and a stolen wallet

MONROE, Conn. — A local man was charged with DUI after police officers saw him driving his Toyota Camry station wagon erratically on Main Street early Friday morning.

Jasonian Winfield, 39, of 205 Josies Ring Road in Monroe, was charged with operating under the influence, failure to maintain the proper lane and possession of an hallucinogenic and held on a total bond of $1,000. He was arraigned the next day.

Around 12:20 a.m., police driving north on Main Street (Route 25), near Route 59, observed a Camry in front of them going over 50 mph in a 40 mph zone, then slow down to 30 mph and cross over the center line several times, according to the report.

The officers pulled over the driver, Winfield, for failing to maintain the proper lane and as they approached the Toyota in the freezing cold, police said Winfield opened his sunroof and all of the windows.

He had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he admitted to drinking alcohol, according to police. Field sobriety tests were not performed to standard, leading to Winfield’s arrest, police said.

An officer found hallucinogenic mushrooms on Winfield, who admitted to consuming some an hour earlier, according to police.

Text threatens family

A Monroe man received a text message from someone telling him he had to pay $750 or they would come after his family.

Police said there was another name on the text that the victim did not recognize. Officers called the number, but there was no answer. They said they believe the text was a wrong number.

Police told the resident not to answer calls or texts from the number and recommended blocking it.

DUI on 110

A Shelton man was charged with DUI after allegedly driving his white BMW erratically on Route 111 early Saturday morning.

Joseph Martucci Jr., 58, of 28 Beech Tree Hill Road in Shelton, was charged with operating under the influence and failure to display plates and inserts. He was released on $500 bond for a March 9 court date.

At around 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, police received a complaint of a white BMW being driven erratically on Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), striking the curb and crossing the center line.

The driver pulled into a parking lot on Shelton Road, stopping with the vehicle partially in the roadway with the rear parking lights on, police said.

The driver was identified as Martucci, who police said admitted to having had a couple of drinks. Field sobriety tests were not performed to standard, leading to his arrest, according to the report.

Wallet stolen from vehicle
A wallet containing personal identification and credit cards was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Wiltan Drive sometime overnight, according to a police report filed Sunday morning.
