MONROE, CT — Police arrested a West Haven juvenile on Dec. 2 for the theft of a loaded handgun from an unlocked vehicle on Captains Hill Road on May 26, according to a press release issued Thursday.
Lt. Kevin McKellick said the youth was arrested on four previous occasions on charges related to stolen or entered cars in Monroe.
On May 26, officers responding to several reports of entered vehicles located a suspicious vehicle in the area of Barn Hill Road and Swendsen Drive around 2 a.m., but it took off, according to police.
The Monroe Detective Bureau investigated the case of the stolen gun on Captains Hill Road and processed the scene for evidence. The owner was charged for leaving a loaded handgun in the unlocked compartment of an unlocked vehicle.
On June 4, the New Haven Police Department notified Monroe police that the handgun was recovered, while executing a search warrant in their city. Present at the time of the search warrant was the juvenile who had previously been arrested several times by Monroe officers, police said.
Evidence sent to the State Lab was processed and on Nov. 18, test results linked the suspect to the gun, police said.
The Juvenile was arrested and charged with stealing a firearm, third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.
“The Monroe Police Department reminds everyone to lock your doors and take your valuables with you,” McKellick said.
But why is he arrested SEVERAL TIMES- and still out doing “his thing??” Our system is so broken. He’s obviously a career criminal.
