MONROE, CT — A large crowd flocked to opening day of St. Peter’s Grace Episcopal Church’s annual Apple Festival Saturday, eating hot dogs and burgers off the grill, apple crisps, kettle corn and other fare, while shopping in vendors’ tents that covered the green at the corner of Monroe Turnpike and Fan Hill Road.
Paintings of sea life and cityscapes were among the many works by local artist Amy Valiante. At another tent, Claudia S. Farkas’ business Connecticut House Drawings were on display. A wide variety of merchandise offered something for everyone from handmade jewelry to unique clothing.
The Save Our Stepney Task Force quizzed festival goers on local history and entered them into a drawing for a gift basket. The nonprofit was next to the Daughters of the American Revolution’s booth.
The event also had face painting and a bounce house for the kids.
The Apple Festival continues this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
