MONROE, CT — Participants in the M&T Bank Mile Down the Pike ran down Monroe Turnpike as families along Sunday’s parade route cheered them on. Peter Oviatt, 53, of Easton Hampton, emerged from the pack of 108 runners to win first overall with a time of 4:58.
Organized by the Monroe Bicentennial Committee’s race subcommittee, the one mile race, from just below the roundabout to the intersection with Elm Street, was held before the annual Memorial Day Parade, which also celebrated Monroe’s Bicentennial and the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department’s 100 year anniversary.
Philip Tisi, 41, of Newtown, came in second with a time of 5:04, and Darrin Fodor, 45, of Monroe, came in third (5:18).
The top female finisher was Abigail Lorge, 46, of Fairfield with a time of 5:31. Larissa Giordano, 46, of Southington, came in second (5:59) and Kelly West, 39, of Monroe finished third (6:28).
