MONROE, CT — Families packed the dining room at Harmony Grange for an Easter breakfast and an egg hunt Saturday, during a fundraising event featuring a visit from the Easter Bunny.
“I think it was a huge success,” said Michael Murray, the event chair who organized the event.
Murray thanked Vasil Tziolis of the Monroe Diner, which donated hash browns sausage and pancakes, McDonald’s which donated a case of pancakes, and Big Y Supermarket which donated a $25 gift certificate toward supplies.
Two Golden Egg prizes raffled off included a $75 ticket each for a family of four to go to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo.
First Selectman Terry Rooney and his wife Nadine attended the breakfast and helped serve food with members of Scouts BSA Troop 63 — Chris Cerrato, Ezra Jensen and Lam Pham — and members of the Masuk Community Crew.
The Community Crew is a new student club that does community projects, including Senior Paws, in which members made toys for elderly people’s pets and donated it to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary in Newtown.
Masuk teacher Emily Woznick, an advisor to the Community Crew, said 30 students filled plastic eggs with candy for the Easter egg hunt during a flex period.
At the event, 10 members volunteered, checking people in, serving food, wearing an Easter Bunny costume, and helping children during the hunt.
Murray said members of Scouts BSA Troop 26, an all girl troop, filled some of the plastic eggs for the event, which was attended by close to 80 people.
