Photo Gallery: Big Truck Day at Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Big Truck Day will be held in the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library's back parking lot this Friday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a photo from last year's event.

MONROE, CT — Children climbed inside trucks, emergency vehicles and even a school bus in the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library parking lot Friday. After a one year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, Big Truck Day was back.

Police vehicles, a fire truck, an ambulance, a public works dump truck, an RWS garbage truck, and a private, military-style vehicle were all on display.

“We had at least 80 kids,” Wendy Fox, an assistant children’s librarian, said of the event, which was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Firefighters, police officers and Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service members gave children demonstrations, and goodie bags with coloring books. The library also had crafts for the children throughout the event.

Anne Brakeman, a library aid, shared photos from the day:
