WEST HAVEN, CT — The No. 4 ranked Masuk Panthers softball team advanced to the Class L State Championship game with a 7-0 win over No. 9 Ellington in the semifinals at West Haven High School on Monday. With the win, the Panthers will face No. 3 Jonathan Law of Milford in the championship game at the University of Connecticut this Saturday at 10 a.m.
In the win over Ellington, Julia Bacoulis threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Bacoulis also had two doubles and a bunt intended to be a sacrifice that went for a hit.
Natalie Lieto homered for a 1-0 lead. Alyssa Castillo executed a bunt squeeze play to drive in Natalie Lieto with the second run. Sofia Lieto had a bunt sacrifice for a run. Ella Bunavsky delivered a two-run inside the park home run.
