Obituary: Sophia Grace Ramsey is playing pain-free among angels

Sophia Grace Ramsey

MONROE, CT — Sophia Grace Ramsey passed away in the loving care of her Mom and Dad on Friday, May 15, 2020. She now rests peacefully in Heaven, playing pain-free among angels.

Sophia brightened the world when she was born on April 20, 2019. The beauty in her soul was visible to all who met her, and who were lucky enough to look into her deep, beautiful eyes. Sophia was diagnosed with a rare terminal illness, the severe subset of Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa, shortly after she was born.

Despite her diagnosis, Sophia felt infinitely more joy, peace and love in her life than she did pain. The love that was poured onto Sophia was endless. Sophia felt immense love from her mom and dad who cared for her wholeheartedly and adored her endlessly; her grandparents who spoiled her with snuggles, giggles, and the most tender care; her aunts who took it upon themselves to help with her complex care all while showering her with constant affection; and her uncle who made her light up whenever she saw him.

Sophia’s outpouring of love and joy was so apparent, too, as her smile would brighten any moment, and the sparkle in her eyes was so very special. Even in her most tired moments, her peaceful gaze or outstretched hand would display the purest form of love and joy.

Sophia’s strength, bravery, and joyful spirit was and continues to be an inspiration to so many people, as her journey with her illness has been shared and supported around the world. She had the most loving doctors, nurses, researchers and therapists who worked tirelessly to give her the best and fullest life possible. Because of them, Sophia was able to play, smile, laugh, and enjoy the silly moments in life. For this, her family is eternally grateful.

Sophia continues to be cherished forevermore by her Mom and Dad, Katie and Tim Ramsey; her Grandma and Grandpa, Sharyn and Bill Weidlein; her Grandma, Barbara Ramsey; her Grandpa, Donald Ramsey; her Aunts, Sarah and Emily Weidlein; her uncle, Brian Ramsey; her Great Grandmother, Marion Ramsey; as well as by her loving extended family, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, therapists, researchers and caring supporters from all over the world.

Sophia is welcomed into Heaven by her Great Grandparents, Alice and John Kyne, Elizabeth and Robert Weidlein, Libbet Weidlein, Connie and Fred Spatola, and Betsy and Robert Ramsey; her Great Uncle Dick Ramsey; and her Great Uncle, Alan Carney. Sophia is also welcomed joyfully to Heaven’s playground by the precious babies from around the world who felt the suffering of EB, who are now rejoicing with Sophia in the comforts of Heaven.

Sophia gave her family a lifetime of love and joy in a short amount of time. She will be held lovingly forever in their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation to the EB Research Partnership in Sophia’s memory. It is essential that a cure is found for this truly devastating disease.
