Monroe teen hospitalized after crashing Hyundai into a tree

MONROE, CT — A 17-year-old Monroe female was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries after crashing a Hyundai Santa Fe into a tree off Wheeler Road Thursday night.

Police said she was heading south at approximately 6:53 p.m., when she veered off the road to the right and struck a mailbox in the 500-block of Wheeler Road.

Her vehicle reentered the roadway, and she continued to head south when she veered off the road to the right again and hit a tree head-on, according to police.

Monroe firefighters extricated the driver from the Hyundai and she was treated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel before being taken to the hospital.

The teen was issued infractions for failure to maintain the proper lane and failure of someone younger than 18 to wear a seat belt.

Police said she had no memory of the accident.

Theft from an unlocked Kia

A wallet was reported stolen out of an unlocked Kia Sorento outside a residence on Scenic Hill Lane Tuesday.

Police said the wallet contained a driver’s license and a credit card, which was used for fraudulent purchases at a gas station in Meriden and a McDonald’s in Waterbury.

The victim told police he believes the theft occurred sometime after midnight on Tuesday.

Shoplifting at Shell

A White male in a black sweatshirt reportedly ran out of the Shell station, 123 Main St., with $50 worth of stolen merchandise Thursday night.

Police said he was seen entering a newer silver Subaru Hatchback, which headed south on Route 25. The incident was reported at approximately 8:47 p.m.
