Athletic Trainer

Job Title: Athletic Trainer

Position Purpose/Goal: The Athletic Trainer provides for the safety, health and well-being of the student-athletes of Masuk High School through the care and prevention of athletic injuries.

Additionally, the Athletic Trainer develops an educational sports medicine program inclusive of injury prevention, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation for all student-athletes.

Terms of Employment: The work year begins on the first day of the CIAC fall schedule (fall sports tryouts typically start on or about Aug. 15) through the final day of the CIAC spring schedule as dictated by the Athletic Director.

This position is responsible for providing athletic trainer coverage for high school athletic programs in both practice and interscholastic competition settings (30-40 hours per week). Work during the summer may be necessary and would be compensated at an hourly rate (to be paid separately). This is an unaffiliated position.

Qualifications Profile:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate area of specialization.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Possess a current State of CT Athletic Training License.
  • Possess a current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding judgment and professionalism.
  • Ability to positively relate to students, parents, and staff.
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, analytical, and attentive self-starter who performs all responsibilities consistently and enthusiastically.

Assistant School Nurse

Job Title: Nurse ~ Assist School Nurse (Part Time 20 Hours per week)

Position Purpose/Goal:

  • Working alongside School Nurse to assist with daily responsibilities (ex. eye exams, etc) – 20 hours per week, four hours per day, some flexibility with hours but looking for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • To provide assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, counseling, management and/or referrals concerning the health and medical care needs of students for the purpose of minimizing absences due to illness, maximizing educational opportunities, and creating a healthy school climate.

Qualifications Profile:

Any combination of education, licenses, certifications and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science area, with coursework in growth and development, health assessment, public or school health, crisis intervention and health education.
  2. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Must meet qualifications of a school nurse as defined in state regulations.
  • Successful experiences working with pediatric population, preferably in a community or school setting desirable.

License or Certificate:

  • Registered professional nurse, designated as R.N. as defined and determined by state law and currently licensed in the state.
  • Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
